Olsen-Hegar Needle Holder Mini Profile

The Olsen-Hegar Needle Holder Mini and Micro Profile range is designed to offer exceptional precision and versatility in delicate surgical environments. These refined versions of the classic Olsen-Hegar are engineered with reduced bulk, finer jaws, and improved manoeuvrability, making them ideal for suturing tasks where accuracy and visibility are critical.

Mini Profile Version

The Mini Profile provides a compact yet highly functional design, reducing instrument weight and improving handling in small or confined surgical fields. It is well suited to fine soft tissue work, small-animal surgery, ophthalmic use, and procedures where a standard needle holder may obstruct visibility. Despite its reduced size, it includes the hallmark dual-function mechanism that combines needle holding and suture cutting, allowing smooth transitions during suturing.

Micro Profile Version – 115 mm

The Micro Olsen-Hegar (115 mm) is the smallest, most refined version in the range, designed for microsurgical work that requires delicacy and the highest level of control. Its ultra-slim jaws and shorter length allow exceptionally precise needle manipulation. This variant is ideal for ophthalmology, vascular micro-suturing, and intricate procedures where minimal instrument footprint and highly controlled movements are essential.

  • Available in Mini and Micro profile designs
  • Micro version measures 115 mm for ultra fine procedures
  • Needle holding and suture cutting combined in one instrument
  • Slim profile for improved visibility in tight surgical fields
  • Fine serrated or tungsten carbide jaws for secure needle grip
  • Integrated scissor mechanism for efficient suture cutting
  • Ratchet locking system for controlled needle placement
  • Lightweight and ergonomic for enhanced precision
  • High quality stainless steel construction for durability
  • Autoclavable and corrosion resistant

Product Description

Both Mini and Micro profiles retain the classic Olsen-Hegar combined action: needle holder + integrated scissors. The jaws are available with serrated or tungsten carbide inserts, offering dependable needle grip and enhanced durability. An integrated ratchet locking mechanism provides stable needle positioning, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive or extended suturing tasks.

Made from high-quality stainless steel, the instruments are corrosion resistant and suitable for repeated autoclave sterilisation. The ergonomic slimline handles enhance tactile feedback and improve fine control, supporting confident and accurate suturing across a wide range of surgical disciplines.

Our Philosophy

Firstly, our philosophy is to challenge everything we do, be accountable for what we manufacture and continually improve. Furthermore, we supply stainless steel instruments that are manufactured in accordance with BS 5194. This ensures each instrument has the right composition, enabling it to serve its intended purpose effectively.

Finally, we select the highest grade steels, for the best long term value for our customers. As part of our ISO 9001 quality system, we ensure we have access to material mill certificates and also as part of our proactive objective quality assessment, we send off routine batches of material for 3rd Party testing and verification. This ensures our customers receive the instrument they ordered, manufactured from the correct steel, as per BS 5194.
