Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder
Surgeons widely use our Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder with Tungsten Carbide as a highly versatile general-use instrument in general surgery.
Because of its versatility, surgeons commonly use it as one of the most frequently employed surgical tools for human procedures. Surgeons typically utilise it with larger, heavier suture needles due to its wide jaws. In oral, gynaecological, or dermatological procedures, medical professionals may use shorter lengths of the instrument. For deep tissue suturing, such as in bariatric procedures, larger lengths find application. This product has a straight design with cross-serrated jaws that feature a central groove for securely holding the needle.
- Non-ratcheted design
- Cross-serrated jaws

Product Description
Firstly, our Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder is known for its non-ratcheted design, which means it lacks a locking mechanism. This design allows for a smooth and continuous suturing process, as it eliminates the need to disengage a ratchet when repositioning the needle.
Furthermore, this needle holder’s jaws are cross-serrated, providing a secure grip on the needle. This feature ensures that the needle remains firmly held during suturing, reducing the risk of accidental needle slippage.
Mayo-Hegar needle holders are available in a range of lengths, allowing surgeons to choose the size that best suits their needs. Different lengths can be advantageous in various surgical procedures, providing flexibility and precision.
The combination of tungsten carbide inserts and stainless steel in these instruments is highly valued. We strategically incorporate tungsten carbide inserts into the instrument’s design, typically at the tips. This choice enhances the instrument’s durability and gripping capabilities when handling delicate tasks like suturing in surgical procedures.
One notable feature is that the Mayo-Hegar needle holder combines the functions of needle holding and cutting into a single instrument. This simplifies the surgical process, as it eliminates the need for a separate scissors or cutting tool.
